2018 Commonwealth Games Nomination Announcement
23 October 2017
Athletics Northern Ireland’s nominees for the 2018 Commonwealth Games team have been shortlisted.
Final selection of the Northern Ireland Track & Field team to compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia will be made by the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council (NICGC) on Tuesday 2nd January 2018. A public announcement will be made later that week.
To assist with selection, each relevant sport will run a process to determine nominations to be made to the NICGC. All nominations must be submitted to the NICGC by 22nd December but many will be lodged earlier as competition seasons end.
Being nominated is not a guarantee of selection and individuals should not assume selection until notified by the NICGC and/or their sport’s governing body after the 2nd of January.

Jackie Newton, Director of Coaching and Athlete Development said, “This competition presents an excellent opportunity for our athletes to compete against some of the best in the world in a Northern Ireland vest. We are very pleased to present this list of highly talented athletes to the Commonwealth Games Council. All 15 have demonstrated their potential with strong performances during the qualification period. The list includes a great mix of experience along with new talent coming through and several athletes who have a high Commonwealth ranking with performances well above the consideration standard. We look forward to the final selections that will be announced in January.”
