Aaron McGrady and Katie Moore take the lead at the Mighty Oaks XC

Aaron McGrady (East Down AC) and Katie Moore (North Down AC) secured the top positions at the latest round of the Athletics NI Cross Country League 2018/2019 at the Mighty Oaks XC (Saturday 8th December 2018).
This was the fifth year of the event and the new, less hilly, more-muddy course proved to be a hit, with over 250 competitors taking part at Acorns AC hosted event at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena.
In the Men’s 4 Mile race, Aaron McGrady took 1st place in a time of 23:29, with Neill Weir (Willowfield Harriers) taking 2nd place in 24:25 and Vincent McKenna (Acorns AC) coming in a close 3rd place in 24:26.
In the Women’s 3 Mile event Katie Moore battled it out to take 1st place in a time of 20:03, while Karen Wilton (Jog Lisburn Running Club) took 2nd place in 20:16 and last year’s winner, Catherine Diver (Beechmount Harriers) took 3rd place in 20:28. Unattached Athlete, George Ferguson took the top position in the Male Masters O50 event in 22:58, with Brian Todd (Orangegrove AC) in 2nd and Billy Bamber (Ballymena Runners AC) coming in 3rd.
There were some impressive results in the Age Group competitions with Adam Sullivan (Loughview AC) finishing as 1st Boy in the Mixed Under 12 event and Lily Rimmer (Dromore AC) the 1st Girl. The Under 14 event was led by Conor Broderick (City of Lisburn AC) and Lauren Madine (East Down AC). The Under 16 event was led by Joel Chambers (Loughview AC) and Meadow McCauley (Newry AC) while Jack Moore (Carmen Runners) and Cassie Lagan (Finn Valley AC) led the Under 18 event.
