Eight athletes have been selected to represent Northern Ireland and Ulster in the Armagh International Road Races at The Mall on February 9th.

The Northern Ireland & Ulster teams are looking particularly strong this year and should be contending for podium positions at the event. The selected men have all run sub 14:30 for 5000m or 5k in the last year and the women have either run sub 17 minutes for 5000m/5k or sub 10 minutes for 3000m.

The programme starts with age group races from 6:30pm and builds up to the women’s international 3K at 8:10pm and men’s international 5K at 8:30pm.

Athletics NI’s Endurance Coordinator, Mark Kirk, said: “We are very pleased with the very strong teams that we have selected for Armagh this year. It is great to have the Armagh Road Races back on the calendar. Armagh AC do an extraordinary job in attracting deep fields of competitive athletes from home and overseas who will give them all a good race.”

The event, now in its 31st year, saw a record 139 runners break 15 minutes in the men’s race in 2020 with 52 women under 10 minutes in the 3k race.
