Athletics Northern Ireland Announce 2016 Awards Night

The Athletics NI Annual Awards Ceremony will be held at the Titanic Belfast on Wednesday 25th January 2017 starting at 7pm.

These awards celebrate the often unsung heroes of Athletics in Northern Ireland - the volunteers, officials and coaches who put in a remarkable effort throughout the year to create the foundation on which our sport is built.  Athletes breaking a Northern Ireland Record in 2015-16 and their coaches will also be recognised as well as the coaches of athletes selected for a major championship during the 2015-16 season.

John Allen, General Secretary of Athletics Northern Ireland stated “We believe it is very important to recognise the hard work and dedication of our coaches, official’s volunteers and clubs. Although all cannot win it is important that we acknowledge the vital work done by all in keeping our sport moving forward. The awards are therefore a small way to acknowledge the long hours put in by volunteers in all spheres of our activities.”

John continued, “We are also very pleased to be able to hold the 2016 awards at such a superb venue and hope all will enjoy the evening.”

Ten individual awards will be presented on the night based on evidence presented to the awards panel. Three awards will be presented based on data surrounding athlete performances, with the remaining seven based on the quality of evidence presented during the nomination procedure. Since awards are based on merit alone the number of times an individual or club is nominated has no bearing on the outcome.

This year’s awards will be presented across categories targeting coaches, clubs, volunteers and officials:
