Athletics Northern Ireland team Selected for the Mens 4 x 100m Relay Event at Anniversary Games

The Athletics Northern Ireland team for the 4 X 100m relay at the 2017 Anniversary Games has been announced.

Many congratulations to the following athletes who have been selected to represent Athletics Northern Ireland in the 4 X 100m at the Anniversary Games to be held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 9th July 2017.

Dean Adams (Alan Kennedy/Ballymena & Antrim) Leon Reid (James Hillier/Birchfield) Christian Robinson (Alan Kennedy/City of Lisburn) Jason Smyth (Derry Track Club)

RESERVE: Michael McAuley (Ballymena & Antrim)

Athletics Northern Ireland have been invited to enter a team into this event to compete against Australia, England, Italy, the Netherlands, Scotland, Spain and Wales.

Leon Reid and Jason Smyth will head up the quintet of senior men. Both gained early selection at the Northern Ireland & Ulster Championships earlier this month. They will be joined by Christian Robinson who ran a lifetime best of 10.68, when he competed in Oordegem-Lede, Belgium, last month and Dean Adams whose season’s best of 10.90, at the same meet, has earned him a place on this team. Michael McAuley has been named as reserve following his impressive run and personal best of 11.08 in the 100m final at the Championships.

Jackie Newton, Director of Coaching and Athlete Development said, “This competition will provide our team with valuable relay competition at an event that features some of the world’s best athletes. It is a great opportunity to race in the arena that is to host the World Para Athletics Championships, where Jason Smyth will compete just one week later, and the World Athletics Championships in August. The atmosphere, competition and whole experience will be sure to inspire the team and help them to deliver their best performance on the day.”

The team will also be seen in action together at the Belfast international on Wednesday 5th July as they prepare for the Anniversary Games just four days later.
