09 May 2016

On Wednesday 6th April 2016, Athletics NI hosted a consultation with coaches and interested parties regarding preparation and planning for the the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The event, held at the Ramada Plaza Shaws Bridge in Belfast, was designed to help answer several pressing questions regarding both the consideration policy and the pre-games preparation plans.

Athlete Development Lead Tom Reynolds said, “The consultation was a chance for the Athletics’ community to voice their opinions before important decisions around the 2018 Games are made. We had a good turn out on the day with many of the athletes and coaches hoping to be involved in Gold Coast in attendance.”

Minutes from the event have been published on the Commonwealth Games section of NIfutures.com HERE.

Director of Coaching & Athlete Development Tom Crick said, “The consultation really helped to answer the most pressing questions raised during the planning process and I expect many of the suggestions to make their way into the final consideration policy. I’d like to thank everyone for contributing their time to making 2018 the most successful Commonwealth Games team ever.”

Several of those in attendance have also agreed to sit on a feedback committee that will review the consideration standards and policy before it is finalised and published by Athletics NI later in 2016.
