Endurance Coaches Network with Geoff and Jake Wightman

Athletics Northern Ireland are delighted to announce Geoff and Jake Wightman as guest speakers for our Endurance Coaches Network to be held at the Holiday Inn the night before the IAAF Antrim International Cross Country competition on 5th January 2018..

Geoff is a former international marathon runner who finished 6th in the European Championships in 1990 and has a best time of 2:13. He is also a prolific commentator at major events across the UK.

Many will have heard him at this year’s World Championships as well as at the Olympics in 2012. He was also the man behind the microphone at this year’s Emsley Carr Mile as his son, Jake, was winning the race.

2017 has been a breakthrough year for Jake. He won the 1500m at the Bislett Games in Oslo in a personal best of 3:34.17 and competed at this year’s World Championships. In addition to commentating on Jake’s performance, Geoff also coaches him and we look forward to hearing from both how this relationship works, the key considerations that have been taken with regard to Jake’s long-term development and how life has changed for both along the journey.

Coach Development Lead – Laura Kerr said, “We are very much looking forward to welcoming Geoff and Jake to our seminar that takes place the night before the Antrim International Cross-Country event.

Jake first came to Antrim to race as an U17 in 2010 and competed as an U23 two years ago. We have watched his progress with interest and are looking forward to hearing how his development has been managed by coach and father, Geoff. There will be opportunities for questions and it will provide a great networking opportunity.”

Location: Holiday Inn, Antrim

Time: 7:00pm – 10:00pm.

The seminar has 40 places available and registration is now open here.
