Get Set for Dubai 2019

There is only one more day until the World Para Athletics Championships start in Dubai. Athletics Northern Ireland have 4 athletes who are competing in the Championships as part of the Paralympics Ireland team of 11 athletes in total.

The Championships start tomorrow, Thursday 7th November and will continue until Friday 15th November 2019.

First up for Northern Ireland will be Derry Track Club’s Conor McIlveen on Thursday 7th November in the Men’s 400m T38 Heats at 3.42pm (Our Time). Conor will be making his debut in these Championships where he will face a fierce battle from his 14 competitors in order to make the final on Friday evening at 3.19pm (Our Time).

Next on the track will be Paralympian Jason Smyth (Derry Track Club) who will be defending his title in the Men’s T13 100m on Wednesday 13th November 2019 at 5.45am (Our time) in the Heats and the Final at 3.15pm (our time).

Also making his Championship debut will be City of Lisburn AC’s David Leavy in the Men’s T38 1500m. He will be joined by major World and Olympic star, Michael McKillop (St Malachys AC) in the Men’s T27 1500m. Both categories will run together on Thursday 14th November 2019 at 4.14pm in the Heats and then again for the final on Friday 15th November 2019 at 3.30pm.

A top 4 finish for any athlete will ensure a slot in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo next summer.
