Irish Team Secures First League Status at European Team Championships

Five athletes from Northern Ireland and Ulster as part of Team Ireland at this weekend’s European Team Championships in Sandes, Norway.

The team gathered a total of 227 points to take 7th place overall and secured their place in the First League again for 2021.

The Irish Men’s 4x400m Relay team of Andrew Mellon (Crusaders AC); Christopher O’Donnell; Cathal Crosbie and Harry Purcell won Race B in a season’s best time of 3:08.83.

University of Ulster athlete, Katie Kirk had a great performance in the Women’s 800m, coming 7th in 2:06.87, while Dundalk St Gerard’s Kate O’Connor also had a terrific performance, throwing a series of 50m throws in the Women’s Javelin competition, to finish in 7th place with 50.44m.

Ellie McCartney (City of Lisburn AC) came 8th in the Women’s Pole Vault competition, clearing 3.76m and Ryan Forsyth (Newcastle & District AC) finished the Men’s 5000m in 6th place in a time of 14:03.74.
