Junior Athletes Compete at NI and Ulster Childrens Games

Junior Athletes aged U9- U13 competed at the NI & Ulster Children’s Games in Finn Valley on Sunday 2nd June 2019. There were over 350 children entered across the individual competitions and a total of 50 relay teams.

Starting with the U9 Girls 60m, 1st place went to Kayla Toner (Finn Valley AC) who ran a time of 10.42. Aine Smith (Carrick Aces AC) took 1st place in the U9 Girls 300m finishing in 57.35 with Ciara McDaid (Olympian Youth & AC) jumping 2.92m to take 1st place in the Long Jump. The top spot in the Javelin went to Reah Robinson (Letterkenny AC) throwing 9.61m.

Charlie Bonner (Rosses AC) won the U9 Boys 60m in 10.38, while Josh Brennan (Tir Chonaill AC) won the 300m in 55.99. Lee McGranaghan (Finn Valley AC) won the U9 Boys Long Jump, reaching 3.08m, In the Turbo Javelin, it was another Gold for Finn Valley AC with Noah Ferman in 1st with a throw of 13.4.

In the U10 Girls Eva Patton (Loughview AC) took the gold for the 60m event, running 10.16. Erelle O’Sullivan (Shercock AC) won the U10 Girls 500m in 1.37.09 and Alana Thornton (Willowfield Harriers) won the Long Jump in 3.35. The Girls Javelin was won by Moya Roberts (Annalee AC), throwing 10.66.

Oluebube Azubulke (Annalee AC) won the U10 Boys 60m event in a time of 9.59, while Armagh AC’s Ciaran Kelly won the 500m in 1.36.13. Ciaran Cooney (Cranford AC) won the boys Long Jump in 3.60m and Barney McQuaid (Glaslough Harriers) won the Javelin in 17.09.

The U11 Girls 60m was won by Meghan Jackson (Olympian Youth & AC), finishing in 9.76, while Clones AC’s Grace Connolly won the 600m in 2.01.70. Cliodhna McBride (Cranford AC) won the Girls Long Jump with 3.56m and Eva Logue (Rosses AC) won the Javelin with 19.25m.

Finn Valley Ac’s Josh Ryan ran 9.111s to win the U11 Boys 60m, and Enniskillen Running Club’s Deivs Tarvids won the 600m in 1.53.31. Mark Wilkinson (Finn Valley AC) won the Boys Long Jump with 3.70 while Oisin Gillespie (Rosses AC) won the Javelin with 17.52.

Freya Boyce (Loughview AC) won the U12 Girls 60m with a time of 7.84s with Jamie McGinley (Lifford Strabane AC) winning the 600m in 1.48.58. City of Derry Spartans’ Ava Colgan won the girls Long Jump with 3.8m and the Girls High Jump, clearing 1.25m. Emma McDaid (Olympian Youth & Ac) won the Javelin with 22.86 and the Shot Put, throwing 9.51m.

In the U12 Boys 60m, gold went to Loughview AC’s Mason McCreery who finished in 7.87s. Luke O’Doherty (Mid Ulster AC) took the 600m win in a time of 1.47.22. Jack Bennett (Tir Chonaill AC) won the U12 Boys Long Jump with 4.10m and the High Jump where he cleared 1.2m. Charlie Gallagher (Finn Valley AC) won the Javelin, throwing 25.5m and Aron Laverty (Carrick Aces AC) won the Shot Put with 8.09m.

Riona Doherty (Finn Valley Ac) won the U13 Girls 80m sprint in 10.44 and the 60m Hurdles in 9.63s. Cranford AC’s Miah Fletcher won the 600m in 1.49.51. Amy Timoney (Finn Valley AC) also came away with two golds medals in the Long Jump, jumping 4.34m and the High Jump with 1.40m. Kate Fenlon (North Down AC) won the Javelin competition, throwing 27.11m and the Shot Put, throwing 10.86m.

In the U13 Boys 80m, first place went to North Down AC’s Jayden Booth who ran 10.21s and he jumped 4.55m to win the Long Jump competition. Ethan Dewhirst (Tir Chonaill AC) won the 60m Hurdles in 9.86s, while Eoin Sheridan (Monaghan Phoenix) ran 1.41.84 to take first place in the 600m. The U13 Boys Javelin was won by a throw of 27.44m by Finn Valley AC’s Dean Leeper. Adam McKeown (Tir Chonaill Ac) won the High Jump event, clearing 1.3m and Patrick Laverty (Carrick Aces Ac) won the Shot Put with a throw of 10.73.

The relay competitions saw Finn Valley AC take an incredible 8 gold medals from across the 10 events. The club’s teams won the U9 Boys in a time of 1.07.66; the U10 Girls in 1.05.05; U10 Boys in 1.04.87; the U11 Girls in 1.04.63; the U11 Boys in 59.56; the U12 Girls in 57.84; the U12 Boys in 59.85 and the U13 Girls in 56.48.

The U9 Girls Relay was won by Olympian Youth & AC, who finished in a time of 1.10.21 and the U13 Boys saw Tir Chonaill AC take the top spot in a time of 56.74.

The All Ireland Children’s Games and Limited U12-U13 events will take place in Tullamore on 29th June 2019.
