Armagh AC's Fionnuala Ross will be at the European XC Championships with Ireland.

Irish Life AAI National Senior XC Champion Paul Pollock (Annadale Striders / Andy Hodbell) is one of five Northern Ireland based athletes who have been named in the Ireland team for the upcoming European XC Championships in Slovakia in two weeks (Sunday 10th December 2017).

Junior gold medallist Craig McMeechan (North Down AC / Francis Marsh) and senior ladies silver medallist Kerry O’Flaherty (Newcastle AC / Richard Rogers) are also named on the 27 strong squad, which includes two time European XC Champion Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole AC).

James Edgar (City of Lisburn AC / Heather Ardis) and Fionnuala Ross (Armagh AC / Dermot Kerr) also deservedly travel with the team following impressive outings at last weekend’s National Championships.

Athletics Northern Ireland's Director of Coaching & Athlete Development, Jackie Newton,  said: ''It's great to see so many Northern Irish athletes on the squad and we fully expect them to put in great performances, building on the great work they've been doing so far throughout 2017''.

Athletics Ireland High Performance Director Paul McNamara said: “The European Cross Country championships are of critical importance to Irish endurance running.

''We have an outstanding tradition at ‘Euro Cross’ and we are certainly looking to build on that in the 2017 edition of the event. Athletes have been selected based on their preparedness to compete with the best in Europe and this team travels intent on adding to recent successes”.
