Mageean and OFlaherty impress in Edinburgh

Amongst all the action at the annual Edinburgh International XC event two of Northern Ireland’s top athletes took part in a 4x1km mixed relay.Rio 2016 Olympians Kerry O’Flaherty (Newcastle AC / Richard Rodgers) & Ciara Mageean (UCD / Jerry Kiernan) ran strong legs for the Irish team who finished in fourth place.

 

Solid Opener for McMullen in Jordanstown open

Adam McMullen (Crusaders / Alan Kennedy) was just 18cm short of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Standard in his opening competition of 2017. Adam jumped a distance of 7.60m in the second of four rounds, suggesting that he will be taking his 2016 form into the 2017 indoor season. Adam’s coach, Alan won the triple jump with 14.15m from fellow North Down athlete Callum Hunter with 13.85m.

 

BMC & England combined events Championships, Sheffield.

Three endurance athletes from Mark Kirk’s squad were in action at the first BMC meeting of 2017. Following his substantial PB over 3000m in December, Andrew Wright (Willowfield Harriers) recorded an indoor personal best over 800m of 1.52.83 when finishing third in the men’s B race. Callum Crawford – Walker (Annadale) also ran an indoor PB of 1.54.29 finishing fifth in the same race.2016 European Para Championship competitor James Hamilton (Ballymena Runners) ran 4.10.26 over 1500m finishing fifth in the C race.Sarah Connolly (North Down / Martin Brockman) recorded a personal best of 3202 points to finish 15th in the Senior Womens’ Pentathlon. The Brunel University athlete recorded as personal best in the shot of 9.28m as well as placing third in the high jump.
