The indoor season started with a bang with a good turnout of all ages and excellent performances in both sprints and hurdles on Saturday 12th January 2019 at the Indoor Sprints & Hurdles Meet at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown.

Dean Adams (Ballymena & Antrim / Alan Kennedy) recorded his fastest ever season opener when winning the Senior Men’s 60m in 6.87, this was also the fastest time run at the Jordanstown track and bodes well for future competitions with faster surfaces. Dean followed up his win with a 6.88 run in round two and is currently 0.09 off the Athletics Ireland European Indoor 60m Performance Standard.

World Junior 4x100m team member Lauren Roy (City of Lisburn AC / Adam McMullen) was also in record breaking form winning the Senior Women’s 60m round 1 and 2 in a new PB of 7.49. The Youth Academy athlete took 0.08 off her 2018 PB which bodes well for the 2019 season and the build up to July’s European Junior Championships in Sweden.

There were also strong performances from current and former Youth Academy athletes with new PB’s for Connor Crowe (Adam McMullen, 7.11 60m), Caitlin Maguire (North Belfast / Alan Kennedy, 7.71 60m), Anna McCauley (City of Lisburn AC / Maureen McCauley, 9.06 60mH), Josh Armstrong (City of Lisburn / Michelle Rea, 8.60 60mH) and Peter Wright (Ballymena & Antrim / Paul Strange, 7.14 60m).

Ulster Schools Junior Boys 100m Champion Oliver Swinney (Dominican College/Mike Fountain) had a breakthrough performance winning the U17 60m in a blistering 7.12.
