NI and Ulster Team Selected for UK Inter Counties XC

Many congratulations to the following athletes who have been selected to represent Northern Ireland & Ulster at the UK Inter Counties XC to be held in grounds of Prestwold Hall, Loughborough on 10th March 2018.

The Senior Men will be represented by  James Edgar (U23) (Heather Ardis), and Neil Johnston (Mark Kirk), with Katie Moore (Francis Marsh), Rebekah Nixon (U23) (Luke Osborne), Fionnuala Ross (Dermot Kerr) lining up for the Senior Women.

Junior Men are Donal Farren (Teresa McDaid), Peter Gracey (Mark Kirk), Matthew Johnston (Teresa McDaid), Tony McCambridge (Joe McAlister), Craig McMeechan (Francis Marsh) and Fintan Stewart (Sean Laverty).

The U17 men selected are David Carey (Ronan Whorisky), Adam Ferris (Joe McAlister), Sean McGinley (John Rogan), with Rebecca Wallace (Eamonn Christie) going for the U17 women.

Athletics Northern Ireland have been invited to enter athletes into this event to compete against the counties and districts of England, Scotland and Wales. The team includes athletes who were competitive at the recent Antrim International and will vie for top places at this event within their age categories.

Jackie Newton, Director of Coaching and Athlete Development said: “This well-established event on the cross-country calendar will give our athletes the opportunity to test themselves against the best in the UK.

''The fields will be deep and competitive as each county and region in the UK selects their best cross country runners.

''We have picked athletes that are on the developmental pathway and will hold their own in this competition. It will give them the opportunity to finish their cross-country season on a high note”.
