NORTHERN IRELAND ATHLETES SELECTED FOR EUROPEAN MOUNTAIN RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS

A record seven athletes from Northern Ireland have been selected to represent Ireland in the upcoming European Mountain Running Championships, which will be in July in the scenic town of Zermatt, Switzerland.

Athletes gained selection through competing in a trial race held in Wicklow, to select both senior and junior teams to travel to the competition.

Racing will take place on 7th July with the best mountain runners in Europe coming to the famous Swiss town set at the foot of the Matterhorn.

As per tradition in mountain running, this years' race will be held on an uphill-only course.
The Senior Mens and Senior Womens race will race over 10km with 1030m of climbing from Zermatt to the finish on top of the Riffelberg, which sits at 2579 metres altitude, with the Junior races starting at the halfway point of the senior races and climbing 440m over 6km to the race finish.
