Northern Ireland International Cross Country 2020

Given the significant International fixture congestion in the early months of next year it is with great regret that we have made the decision to cancel the Northern Ireland International Cross Country event which was due to be held on Saturday 18th January 2020.

Last season’s event which incorporated the Home Countries and Celtic Internationals along with the UK Cross Country Challenge proved to be extremely successful at the new venue of the Billy Neill Centre of Excellence in Dundonald with support from Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.

However next year it will be Scotland’s turn to host these events and this will be on Saturday 11th January.  It would not be realistic to expect the various Home Countries to send similar teams to Dundonald the following weekend and the event would simply not be viable without the support of these countries. The International calendar is such that an alternative date later in the season is also not viable.

Therefore, it is with regret that Athletics Northern Ireland have decided to cancel the event. It is hoped that this will be for one year only and we will be working hard to re-establish the event for 2021 when, hopefully, the Cross Country calendar will be less congested.
