Record Marathon Weekend

It was a historic weekend for Northern Irish Marathon runners, with two new Northern Irish records in Dublin and one Guinness World Record in Frankfurt.
Frankfurt Marathon
Tommy Hughes (Termoneeny Running Club) & Eoin Hughes (Acorns AC) broke the Father/Son Guinness World Record time at the Frankfurt Marathon on Sunday 27th October 2019. The duo finished in a combined time of 4:59.22, beating the previous record of 5:02.11. Eoin finished in a time of 2:31.30, while Tommy finished in 2:27.52.
Tommy also gained a new Age (59) World Record and a PB of 2:27.52, beating his own time which he set earlier this year in Rotterdam.
Dublin Marathon
At the Dublin Marathon on Saturday 26th October 2019, there were even more reasons to celebrate with both Stephen Scullion (Clonliffe Harriers) and Ann Marie McGlynn (Letterkenny AC) breaking the NI Marathon Records.
Stephen finished in 2nd place in a time of 2:12.01, taking 65 seconds off the previous record of 2:13.06 which was set by Greg Hannon in 1979. The 30 year old’s performance is all the more amazing as he had competed earlier this month in the viciously hot conditions in the World Championships in Doha where he ran 2 hrs 21 minutes.
Current Half Marathon Record holder, Ann-Marie McGlynn, added another record to her collection, finishing as the 2nd Irish Women across the line in 2:32.54, beating the previous NI Marathon record time of, 2:35.27. The previous record was set by Teresa Duffy in 2001.
She was followed by Gladys Ganiel (North Belfast Harriers), who finished as the 3rd Irish Women in a time of 2:36.42.
Valencia Half Marathon
In the Valencia Half Marathon on Sunday 27th October, NI 10,000m Record holder, Emma Mitchell (Clonliffe Harriers) finished in a PB time of 72.29, just 29 secs off the current NI record, set by Ann-Marie McGlynn.
