Sprint Event Group Squad with Alan Kennedy

Athletics NI can now announce the second date for Sprints Event Group Squad. These squads are designed to deliver appropriate physical preparation sessions and provide development opportunities, networking and planning support for coaches.

On Sunday 28th January, the Sprints squad session will take place at Ulster University, Jordanstown from 2pm-5pm. This will be led by Athletics NI coach Dean Adams and special guest Alan Kennedy - coach to some of Northern Ireland’s top sprinters including Christian Robinson (Irish U23 100m Champion – 10.64 PB).

The first part of the session will follow on from the previous Event Group Squad day and focus on blocks set-up and use which will be useful for those competing at indoor competitions and prior to the outdoor season, as well as allowing athletes to practise resisted accelerations using the “Exer-Genie” training device.

The second part of the session will allow athletes to apply what they learn in session 1 as they transition to Max Velocity with runs over 40m. Speed Gates (Brower Timing System) will be set up so athletes can obtain a flying 20m time from 20m-40m.

This squad day aims to provide a great opportunity for athletes and coaches to best prepare for their season. Accordingly, following these sessions - coaches will be invited to the board room at 4pm for an informal discussion on speed, acceleration, max velocity, are invited to provide Alan Kennedy with questions on anything related.

Coach Development & Physical Preparation Lead Laura Kerr said: “At the event group stage of our athlete development pathway, Athletics NI support coach-athlete pairs with initiatives including Youth Academy & Open Academy.

"Weekly Youth Academy for selected athletes and quarterly Open Academy sessions aim to nurture the development of promising young athletes as they negotiate their teenage years.

“In recent years Athletics NI have rolled out regular Endurance Camps bringing top young athletes and their coaches together for squad days including planning support, technical training and seminars.

"Here at Athletics NI, we aim to bring in expert coaches and speakers and create an open environment for group training and coach networking".

Online registration is now open and attendance at this single event squad costs: £12.

This athlete fee covers the attendance of the coach-athlete pair. Coaches attending without an athlete may attend free of charge.
