DEMPSEY MCGUIGAN ACHIEVES CWG STANDARD IN AMERICA

In America, Finn Valley AC’s Dempsey McGuigan recorded a season’s best and Commonwealth Games consideration standard with a 69.45m hammer throw at the Florida Relays.

 

NATIONAL INDOOR TITLES FOR JUNIOR STARS

Junior athletes from Northern Ireland and Ulster again impressed on the National stage with medal winning performances on Day 3 of the Irish Life AAI National Juvenile Indoor Track & Field Championships in Athlone, Ireland this weekend (Saturday 1st April 2017).

City of Lisburn AC’s Lauren Roy matched her U-18 60m gold medal winning performance on Day 2 of the Championships last week with another title – Lauren clocked a personal best of 24.70 for gold in the 200m.  Fellow City of Lisburn AC star. Anna McCauley ran 8.65 in the heats.

Shercock AC’s Aine Corcoran was in excellent form as she raced to U-17 800m gold in 2:17.14 – also in the 800m, Lagan Valley AC’s Cormac O’Rourke topped the podium and collected the associated gold medal after winning the U-17 800m in a personal best of 1:59.05.

Youth Academy Athlete Josh Armstrong (City of Lisburn AC) set new PBs in the triple jump (13.87m) and 60m Hurdles (8.36), the silver and bronze medal performances were good enough to take him to 10th and 12th on the U20 power of 10 rankings respectively.

In other news…

Stephen Duncan (Omagh Harriers) and Catherine Whoriskey (City of Derry AC) led the way at a wet and windy Omagh Half Marathon (Saturday 1st April 2017), with Stephen leading the field home in 1:10:05 (1st place) and Catherine topping the ladies podium in 1:16:52 (1st place).

In Belfast, there were also 13.1 mile wins for Andrew Considine (North Belfast Harriers) and Judith Lonnen (City of Lisburn AC) at the Holywood Exchange Half Marathon (Sunday 2nd April 2017).  Both athletes dominated, with Andrew breaking the tape in 1:16:24 (1st place) and Judith winning in 1:24:44 (1st place).  Full details can be found at www.nirunning.co.uk
