Record finisher teams in Round 2 of the Athletics NI Cross Country League

02 November 2016

The second round of the Athletics Northern Ireland Cross Country league was held last Saturday (28th Oct) in conjunction with the Comber Cup races promoted by Ballydrain Harriers.  The weather was fine and a new course layout was used owing to construction work being carried out at the Billy Neill Playing field site.

A record 18 teams finished in the men’s division. North Belfast scored maximum points (28) and are now only 2 points behind Newcastle who are leading with 52 points. A little further back Foyle Valley are in third place on 42 with North Down  not far behind on 40.

In the Women’s division 11 teams finished.  North Down scored maximum points for the second week and are now well clear on 56 points with Foyle Valley second on 37.  However in this season’s league clubs are permitted to drop their 2 lowest scores from the 6 pre Christmas events so the position at present may give a misleading picture with some clubs perhaps making a more targeted approach to this year’s league.

The next league event is this coming Saturday (5th) with the East Antrim Harriers promoted MCCONNELL SHIELD races at the Six Mile River Park, Ballyclare.
