Athletics NI Celebrates Four Local Athletes Selected for European Para Championships in Berlin

World Record holder Jason Smyth (Derry Track Club) is one of four Northern Irish athletes selected to Represent Ireland or Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the European Para Athletics Championships in Berlin at the end of August.

The Northern Ireland 100m record holder will be expecting to repeat his success at the 2017 World Para Championships in London where he won double Gold in the T13 100m and 200m.

Eve Walsh-Dann (North Down AC / Roger Sexton) will represent GB & NI in her first senior championships having won double World Junior Para Gold in Switzerland last year. Eve will contest for the medals in the T36 100m and 200m events, where she has set PBs and British Records in 2018 with 14.72 and 31.34 seconds respectively.


2012 Paralympic athlete Sally Brown (Charnwood AC / Joe McDonnell) has made in excellent comeback in 2018 following 6 years struggling with injury. The Loughborough based athlete will contest the T47 100m, 200m and 400m in Berlin.

David Leavy (City of Lisburn / Ian Neely) will be making his international debut in Berlin. The Rio 2016 Paralympic footballer has successfully transitioned to middle distance running and will have his sights set on running a PB in the T38 1500m and seeing if he can get amongst the top end of the field following an impressive win in Rieti earlier in the year.
