Junior Athletes Take on Tullamore This Weekend

Tullamore is all set for another exciting weekend of athletics, as the Irish Life Health U20 and U23 Championships will take place on Saturday 6th July and the first day of the Irish Life Health National Age Group Championships will be on Sunday 7th July.

Irish Life Health U20 & U23 Championships- Saturday 6th July 2019

Junior Women

City of Lisburn AC’s Erin Fisher will be competing in the Junior Women’s Pole Vault, while teammate, Anna McCauley competes in the Junior Women’s High Jump alongside World Junior Silver Medallist Sommer Lecky (Finn Valley AC).

The Junior Women’s Javelin will have the likes of Niamh McCorry (Annalee AC), Sasha Barrett-Ferris (City of Lisburn AC) & Sarah Crawford (Lifford Strabane AC) competing against multi-event star Kate O’Connor (Dundald St Gerards AC).

Beechmount Harriers’s Davicia Patterson will compete in the Junior Women’s 200m. She will be joined by Kate O’Connor (Dundald St Gerards) and Katie Monteith (City of Lisburn AC) in what is set to be a tough competition, before Katie returns for the 100m.

The Women’s 800m will see Niamh Carr (Springwell Running Club) and Bryanna Catney (North Down AC) competing, and Bryanna will also compete in the 1500m.

Junior Men

North Down AC’s Aaron Sexton will take on the Junior Men’s 100m and the 200m against a huge field of athletes. In the 400m City of Lisburn Ac’s Adam Hughes, will take on Aaron McGlynn (Finn Valley Ac) and Eoin McKenna (Glaslough Harriers) among others.

In the 800m Aidan Connolly (Finn Valley AC) and Cormac O’Rourke (Lagan Valley Ac) will compete, while Glaslough Harriers’ Jack Murphy takes on the Pole Vault and Jai Benson (Lagan Valley AC) will be seen in the Triple Jump.

U23 Women

Ballymena & Antrim Ac’s Lydia Mills will compete in the U23 Women’s Long Jump and Triple Jump, while Niamh Malone (Monaghan Phoenix AC) will compete in the 400m Hurdles and the 200m.

City of Lisburn AC’s Ellen McCartney will compete in the Pole Vault, while teammate Zoe Carruthers will take on the 1500m. In the 3000m Niamh Kelly (Letterkenny AC) will compete, while in the 100m Caitlin Maguire (North Belfast Harriers) and Janine Boyle (Finn Valley AC) will join the start line.

U23 Men

The Men’s 400m will see Shane Irwin (Finn Valley AC), Ryan Keenan (City of Lisburn AC), Eoin Kelly (Letterkenny AC), Craig Newell (Ballymena & Antrim AC) and Roland Surlis (Annalee AC) toe the line, while Annalee AC’s Paul Sexton will take on the 400m Hurdles.

Ballymena & Antrim AC’s Michael McCauley will compete in the 100m and 200m. In the 800m, North Belfast Harriers’ Andrew Milligan will compete against Callum Crawford-Walker (Annadale Striders) and Roland Surlis (Annalee AC).

Caolan O’Callaghan (Tir Chonaill AC) and Mark Burton (City of Lisburn AC) will compete in the Triple Jump, while Oisin Gallen (Finn Valley AC) and Alan McGinley (Lifford Strabane AC) will take on the 1500m.

In the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase, Ethan Dunn (Loughview AC) and Patrick McNiff (Newcastle & District AC) will compete.

The day will end with the Weight for Distance competitions and the 4x100m and 4x400m Relays.

Irish Life Health National Age Group Championships on 7th July 2019

Juvenile athletes will also be in Tullamore this weekend for the Irish Life Health National Age Groups Championships on Sunday 7th July for Day 1. The NI & Ulster athletes have all qualified from the recent NI & Ulster Age Groups Championships on Saturday 15th June 2019.

Among the athletes competing in the Championships, which span three days across 7th, 13th and 14th July 2019, will be multi-eventer Finn O’Neill (City of Derry Spartans), who will compete in the U15 Boys 250m Hurdles, High Jump and 800m as well as Irish Schools Champions, Jenna Breen (City of Lisburn AC) in the U16 Girls 100m and 200m and Joshua Knox (City of Lisburn AC) in the U18 Boys High Jump and Triple Jump.

Joining them will be teammate Finlay Stewart (City of Lisburn AC), who will compete in the U16 Boys 250m Hurdles and the Long Jump, while Jamie Carville (Tandragee High School) will compete in the U16 Boys 100m. Adrienne Gallen (Lifford Strabane AC) will compete in the U16 Girls Discus, Hammer and Shot Put.

Finn Valley AC’s Blaine Lynch will be seen in the U14 Boys 80m, 200m and Javelin and Amy Jo Kierans (Oriel AC) will compete in the U14 Girls 200m, 800m and Shot Put. Amy will be joined in the 200m by Lifford Strabane AC’s Ella Costello who will also take on the 75m Hurdles and Long Jump.

Dylan McBride (Willowfield Harriers) will compete in the U17 Boys 800m and 1500m, while North Down AC’s Amy Kimber will compete in the U19 Girls Discus and Etain McGuckian (Ballymena & Antrim AC) will be in the U16 Girls 100m and 200m.
