NI and Ulster Cross Country Competition Opportunities

Northern Ireland & Ulster Team – Home Countries International Cross Country 2017

The 2017 event will be held in Port Talbot, Wales on Saturday 25th March.

U20 and Senior Northern Ireland Teams: We will select up to 4 Men and 4 Women per age group but this will be dependent upon the standard of performances.

Any athlete wishing to gain selection must email the Athlete Development Lead tom@athleticsni.org to express their interest by:
Senior age groups - 4^th March.
Junior age groups 11^th March

Selection Criteria

Selection – current form across all events will be a factor in selection.
Selections will be largely based on the following competitions however, other competitions may also be taken into consideration.

• Final Selection for senior age groups will be made during the week beginning 6^th March.
• Final Selection for junior age groups will be made during the week beginning 13^th

What competitions can I enter to gain selection for this international?

U20 Men/ U20 Women

• Celtic XC International
• Ulster Schools Championships
• Irish Schools Championships
• Irish Even & Uneven Age Group Championships
• Antrim International Cross Country

Automatic Selection
The top Ulster U20 finisher in the Celtic XC (men and women) and the winner of the Senior Boys’ and Senior Girls’ Ulster Schools titles will get automatic selection.

Selections will be largely based on the following competitions however other competitions may also be taken into consideration.

The competitions results will be given priority in the following order

1. Celtic XC International
2. Irish Schools Championships
3. Ulster Schools Championships
4. Irish Even & Uneven Age Group Championships
5. Antrim International Cross Country

Senior Men/ Women

• GloHealth Inter County Cross Country Championships

• NI & Ulster Senior Cross Country

• Antrim International Cross Country

Automatic Selection
The first two finishers in the NI & Ulster Senior Cross Country (Men and Women) will be offered automatic selection

Head to head comparisons will be used when there is ambiguity and selection is not clear cut

The competitions results will be given priority in the following order;

1. GloHealth Inter County Cross Country Championships

2. NI & Ulster December Championships

3. Antrim International XC

• Athletes performing well at UK mainland events will also be considered and the final decision will be made by the selection panel.
