Paul Tanui set to compete at the IAAF Northern Ireland International Cross Country in January.

Rio Olympics 10,000 metres silver medallist Paul Tanui will race in the Northern Ireland's 42nd International Cross Country at Comber on 19th January 2019. The event is an IAAF permitted race and is one of the longest running in the world.

The race will take place this year at the new venue of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council's Billy Neill Centre of Excellence at Comber after 10 years at the Greenmount Campus in Antrim. The Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has made extensive ground preparations for this International and the excellent drainage should provide a very fast course for January's event.

Paul Tanui has been the model of consistency over the years with no less than 3 World Championships bronze medals over 10,000 metres in Moscow (2013), Beijing (2015) and London last year. While Paul is renowned as a world class track runner, he was also in fact 8th in the World Cross Country Championships back in 2010 and there’s no doubt he’ll be aiming for the podium top spot come January.

The event this year will also incorporate the Celtic XC, the British Cross Challenge and the Home Countries XC Championships, and looks to be an exciting day of Cross country running.

Other high-profile names for the island’s premier cross country event will be announced following this weekend's European Cross Country in Tilburg.

Previous participants in this International have included Timothy Cheruiyot, Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi, Steve Ovett, Steve Cram, Brendan Foster, Paula Radcliffe, multi World Cross country champion Paul Tergat and double European champion Fionnuala Britton.
