The Cross Country League Continues with the Stormont Cross Country

This weekend will see the return of the penultimate race of the Athletics NI Cross Country League 2018/19, with the Stormont Cross Country taking place on Saturday 9th February 2019. The Cross Country event takes place across the grounds of the Stormont Estate and is hosted by the NI Civil Service Athletics Club.

There is a full timetable of events on offer, from Primary School right through to the Senior and Masters events:

SCHEDULE OF RACES

11.00 am              Primary School Age Boys 1,000m

11.20 am              Primary School Age Girls 1,000m

11.40 am              Junior Boys & Girls U13 2,000m

12 noon                Junior Boys & Girls U15/U17 3,000m

12.20 pm              Women Open / Vets & Male V60+ 3.3 miles

1.10 pm                Men Open / Vets 4.4 miles

 

The race has seen an increase in numbers over the years and this year is sure to continue this trend, despite the yellow weather warning and the threat of Storm Eric, with over 500 pre-entries and more entries still available on the day.

The current standings in the Men’s League competition have leaders, North Down AC sitting with 130 points after 6 events, while Willowfield Harriers, in 2nd, have 124 points across 5 events and North Belfast Harriers in 3rd with 104 points across 4 events.

The Women’s League is also being led by North Down AC, with a total of 136 points across 6 events, followed by Ballydrain Harriers in 2nd with 100 points across 4 events and Acorns AC in 3rd with 88 points across 5 events.

Up Next…

The final round of the Athletics NI XC League 2018/2019 will be at the NI & Ulster Senior XC Championships on Saturday 23rd February 2019, held in Lurgan Park.

Online entries for this event will close on Tuesday 12th February 2019 at 5pm, with late entries open until Wednesday 13th February at 5pm.

Elsewhere this weekend…

Northern Irish athletes will travel to the Birmingham Arena to compete at the Spar British Athletics Indoor Championships on Saturday 9th February and Sunday 10th February 2019. On Saturday we will see Lauren Roy (City of Lisburn AC) hoping to continue her success in the 60m Sprints, while her teammate Ben Fisher will compete in the Long Jump on Sunday. Annadale Strider's pair, Conall Kirk and Conall Kirk and Callum Crawford-Walker will take on the 800m on Saturday.

The Athletics NI Indoor Jumps & Throws Meet will take place on Saturday 9th January 2019 at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown Campus.

The competition is open to anyone aged U14 and above with entries available on the day. Entries are £3.00 for one event, or £5.00 for up to 3 events.
