The 2016 Northern Ireland Coaching Conference, hosted by Athletics NI, will take place on Saturday 8th of October at University of Ulster Jordanstown.
Building on the success of last years sell out event, the conference will involve a mixture of presentations and practical workshops. Former British Athletics Jumps and Combined Events Lead Alan Richardson will deliver a specialist practical workshop for Pole Vault coaches and present his top tips on creating a world class youth development programme based on his recent experience as Director of Athletics for Millfield School in Somerset.
On the endurance front, Andy Hobdell, coach to Northern Irish Olympic marathon qualifiers Paul Pollock and Kevin Seaward, will present his views on training for endurance with a specific focus on the work he has done with the duo. Based out of St Mary's University in Twickenham, Andy has coached ten British and Irish internationals to Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth finals both indoor and outdoors on the track, and to World and Olympic qualifiers on the road. In addition to the Northern Irish duo he has also coached Dream Mile winner Andy Baddeley to a 3.49 mile, and a number one world ranking over that distance.
Tom Crick, Athletics NI Director of Coaching and Athlete Development, said: “The conference is always a great opportunity for coaches to reflect on their practice ahead of the new season. This year I’m really looking forward to Alan and Andy’s presentations and we will be announcing further speakers in the coming weeks.”
The University of Ulster Jordanstown is located only 20 minutes from the Belfast City Centre and close to both Belfast International and Belfast City Airports.
The conference will open for registrations later in July, when further speakers and a full timetable will also be announced. But for now coaches are invited to save the date in their diary.
