Athletics Northern Ireland are providing this experience for athletes in the U17 and U20 age groups to provide early season exposure to high level cross country competition. The athletes will run for their clubs but will travel and stay as a team at the competition.

Director of Coaching and Athlete Development, Jackie Newton, said “We are providing this extra opportunity for our young endurance athletes as part of our strategy to nurture the development of promising athletes as they negotiate their teenage years. We strive to inspire them to aim higher by exposing them to a deeper level of competition than they would otherwise get at home and also to grow their athletics friendship groups and support networks through shared competition experiences. The athletes that we have selected for this opportunity have shown promise and potential during 2019 and we are looking forward to working with them and their coaches over the next few years and beyond.”
