EURO CLUBS XC PREVIEW

Four teams from Northern Ireland will make history this weekend as they compete in the European Clubs Cross Country Championships in Portugal, facing elite competition from across Europe.

This weekend an unprecedented four teams from Northern Ireland will compete at the European Clubs XC Championships in Portugal. Competition will be tough with a total of sixty-eight clubs from twenty-two countries represented.

They will be led by Candour Track Club following their historic win at the Irish National XC Championships in November. Despite missing some of their key athletes due to other commitments their team of Conall McClean, Tony McCambridge, Fionntan Campbell, Paul Carty and Conor Gallagher should be well able to mix it with the best teams in Europe.

North Belfast who finished runner up in the National Championships for the second-year running will also field a strong team with Andrew Milligan, Finn McNally, Matthew Lavery Conan McCaughey, Brendan McCambridge and John Black. They will be looking for a higher placing than last year

Lagan Valley are fielding two U20 teams. The women’s team qualified by winning the National XC team title creating history by being the first club from Northern Ireland to do so. The team is made up of Chloe Young, Olivia Morgan, Isa McCarron, Katie Graham, Katie Keown and Aoife Magee. For the second year running the U20 men’s team are representing Ireland following their second place in the National Championships. The team is made up of Oisin McGloin, Noah Harper, Rory Armstrong, Jude McGann, Rhys McManus and Niall McAufield.
