Successful day for Kerry O'Flaherty (Newcastle) and her Irish 3000m Steeplechase team mates Sara Treacy (Dunboyne) and Michelle Finn (Leevale), who have all qualified for the final of the woman's event.

It was a historic day with all three athletes making the European final.

Kerry O’Flaherty and Sara Treacy were pitted against each other in the second heat and both came through strongly to advance to the final. With a strong pool of competition in the second heat, Kerry had to push hard from the start to maintain a hold on the front runners. Having a battling match for 4th and 5th positions at points during the race with fellow team mate Sara. In the end Sara took the final automatic qualifying spot in fifth, while Kery qualified comfortably in sixth as a non-automatic qualifier with a big season’s best of 9:45.53.

A delighted Kerry said ;

"I have only had two races under my belt this season and I was a bit rusty. I knew I would come strong in the last two laps. I am delighted with my run particularly as this is all about preparation for Rio where  I want to peak. That’s a big step forward and it’s great to get all three girls into the final.”

The final will take place on Sunday 10th July at 4.15pm.
