Lauren Roy starred at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Texas with record-breaking sprint performances, headlining a strong weekend for Northern Irish athletes at home and abroad.

Lauren Roy had the two best sprint performances of her career when racing for Tarleton State University at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco Texas. The City of Lisburn AC athlete (coached by Adam McMullen when in NI) ran a blistering 23.27 (1.5) to break Amy Foster’s 200m record from 2011. The following day she came close to Amy’s 100m record with 11.44 (0.3).

Lauren came through the Youth Academy and now becomes the second Academy athlete after Kate O’Connor to go on to break a Senior Northern Irish record.

Ben Sykes (Orangegrove AC) had an encouraging season opener in the Loughborough Open finishing 3rd in the senior race with 10.67w (3.3).

Roisin and Eilish Flanagan (Carmen Runners) both ran the Boston 5k finishing 13th (15:43) and 18th (16:10) respectively.
