It was a weekend of 10k’s with the Irish Road Race Championships being held in Dunboyne and the British trials for the European Road Running Championships held in Pulford.
There were some excellent performances from our local athletes. In Dunboyne Ann-Marie McGlynn (Letterkenny) was 2nd women home in 33.07 with Hannah Gilliland (Annadale) 5th and Jessica Craig (North Down) 7th finishing in the top ten.
In the men’s race Conall McClean (CNDR) was first NI man home in 7th place with Neill Johnston (Annadale) and Luke Kelly finishing in 13th and 14th respectively. Candour Track Club continued their success at National Championships by claiming the Silver Medal in the men’s team race.
In Pulford Hannah Irwin (Cambridge) finished 6th in 32.31 and Emily Haggard Kearney (NBH) 8th in 32.52. Hannah has already been selected for the British Half Marathon team to compete in the European Road Running Championships in Brussels in April. Jack O'Farrell was also running and finished an impressive 13th with 29.46.
In Scotland at the SIAB XC International Cassie Curran (Dominican College) was part of the Irish Junior Girls team that won the Silver Medal. Cormac Leheny (St Malachys) also secured a silver medal with the Junior Boys team. There was another Silver Medal for Emma Stewart (Banbridge Academy) who was a member of the Intermediate Girls Relay team.
Closer to home at the popular Coleraine Campus 5k event there were wins for David Spalding (Ballydrain) in the men’s race and Catherine O’Connor in the women’s race.
