Impressive Performances by NI Athletes at Le Cheile International

Many of Northern Ireland’s promising track athletes competed at Leixlip at the weekend against some strong international fields.
Manchester International team headliner Leon Reid (James Hillier) did the sprint double in challenging headwind conditions. The 2015 European U23 Silver medallist took victories against competitors from USA, Jamaica and recent world junior 7th placer Cameron Tindle of Scotland. Reid recorded 10.67 (-2.4) for 100m and 21.26 (-2.1) for 200m.
There was also an impressive victory on home soil by Christine McMahon (Ian Neely / Ballymena & Antrim) who recorded her 3rd Sub 57 second run (56.97) of the season to win the 400m Hurdles by almost a second from Sarah Wells of Canada.
European Cross Country 2015 competitor Emma Mitchell (Eamonn Christie / Queens) took the victory in the women’s 1500m with a PB 4.18.66 ahead of Katie Kirk (Mark Kirk / Queens) who also recorded a PB of 4.22.39.
Kelly Neely (Ian Neely / Ballymena & Antrim) was close to her seasons best with 4th place in the women’s 800m (2.05.99). Youth Academy athlete Callum Crawford-Walker (Mark Kirk / Lagan Valley AC) recorded a marginal PB in the Men’s 800m with 1.52.44 while training partner Neil Johnston (Springwell) likewise recorded a PB in the 3000m with 8.23.90 for 3rd place.
