Sign the whole family up for the TQ Junior Mile
07 March 2016
Dylan McBride and Murphy Millar is urging families to get their entry in for the Junior Mile at the TQ10K event.
Following the success of last year’s TQ10K, 2016 is shaping up to be just as exciting. With an increase of 100 participants in the Junior Mile in 2015, it is sure to surpass that for this year’s race.
Willowfield Harriers and North Down AC athletes Dylan McBride and Murphy Millar launched the 2016 race. Dylan competed last year in the Junior Mile and has been having a successful year from then, with being one of the top 20 boys in Northern Ireland to make it through to the 2015/16 Flahavans Primary School Cross Country Squad, as well as top positions in the NI & Ulster Cross Country Championships. 14 year old Murphy Millar had a great victory within the 800m event at the NI & Ulster Indoor Track & Field Championships in February, which secured her a place in the All Ireland Championships this month. Both young athletes are setting tracks and are aiming to compete again this year in the TQ Junior Mile.
Now in its 4th successful year, the Family Junior Mile race has grown each year with more young running enthusiasts taking to the starting line. Last year say 250 participants in this race ranging from the ages of 5 and up. The extremely popular TQ10K is taking place on Sunday 10th April 2016, with the family junior mile starting at 1.30pm. David Seaton, Chairman of Athletics Northern Ireland commented “We at Athletics NI are pleased our sporting association with Titanic Quarter is now in its 10th race and 4th successful year of the family junior mile. Over those years this event has developed it terms of competitor numbers to the extent that it is now one of the best supported road races in Northern Ireland. The family mile was initially added to introduce younger runners to the event. The family mile has brought the fun element to the day, and we hope it continues to increase.”
As previously stated it is evident that, the numbers are rapidly increasing, as 2016 celebrates the TQ10K’s 10th race. Co-Sponsors, Titanic Quarter Limited, James Eyre states “We are delighted to be welcoming in the 10th race for the TQ10K 2016. This is truly a testament to the success of a well-established event which features year on year in the calendars of both athletes in training and those who love to enjoy a fun day out in Titanic Quarter. We are pleased to be working alongside Athletics Northern Ireland again to make 2016 a memorable one” David Seaton reiterates this point as “once again we look forward to welcoming competitors from all over the Province on Sunday 10th April when they take on their individual challenges in the shadow of the famous Harland and Wolff cranes, Samson and Goliath, which act as a backdrop for this popular and eagerly awaited event.”
U105 has come back on board to be the TQ10K Media Partner for 2016 and will be at the ARC on race day, with prizes for the ever-popular family junior mile male and female winners.
