Final Event in Athletics NI Cross Country League

26 February 2016

The Stormont Cross Country races will be held on Saturday (27th) in the picturesque grounds of Stormont Estate, Belfast. First race 11am. They will be the ninth and final event in this season’s Cross Country league a series which has seen record numbers taking part in Cross Country running throughout Northern Ireland.

Following last week end’s NI & Ulster Senior Championships in Lurgan Foyle Valley A.C. are leading both the Men’s and Women’s sections and such is their lead it is difficult to see how they can be caught. They have a 17 point advantage over Acorns A.C. in the Women’s section and a 14 point lead over Newcastle A.C. in the Men’s.

However with the prize structure reaching down to sixth place there is still everything to run for in the minor placings. In particular the race for second place in the Women’s section is particularly fierce with only two points separating Acorns A.C and North Down with both teams needing to field the full complement of 16 runners to remain in contention.
