Kate OConnor breaks KJT's record at Schools International

Newry AC athlete Kate O’Connor (Michael O'Connor/Francis O'Hagen) was the star of the Schools International Combined Events Championships winning the pentathlon with a score of 3803 points in the U15 Age Category and breaking Katarina Johnson-Thompson’s championship record from 2007.

O’Connor recorded personal bests in the long jump (5.57m) and 60 Hurdles (9.37s) as well as impressive performances in the High Jump (1.66m) shot put (11.25m) and 800m (2:19.45) to win the junior girls competition.

In the same age group another Youth Academy athlete from City of Lisburn AC, Anna McCauley (Jo Savage), put over 150 points onto her PB set last month to finish 4th with 3486 points.
Anna also had individual PB's in 60m Hurdles (9.21), Shot (9.44m) and Long Jump (5.27m).

Both athletes helped Ireland to finish second in the age group behind England.
