Specialist Coaching

Athletics Northern Ireland's Athlete Development Pathway recognises that athletes aged 15 years+ should begin to focus their training within an event group as they move towards specialising in a single event in their late teens. In a small country like Northern Ireland, it is not realistic for every club setting to provide a coach in every event group or event.

The list below therefore features event group/specialist coaches based throughout Northern Ireland & Ulster with the relevant qualifications and or proven track record and experience of working with talented athletes in the Under-17, Under-20, Under-23 and Senior Age Groups.

The coaches included below have achieved one or more of the following criteria:

  1. coached a Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games team athlete or or senior athlete to European or World Championships or the Olympic Games.
  2. coached three or more athletes in the Under 17, Under 20, Under 23 or Senior age groups who have achieved a top-10 ranking in the UK power of 10 lists in the last 8 years
  3. Qualified British Athletics Event Specialist, which is the highest current level of qualification available in the current structure.

All coaches listed hold a current valid coaching license. Achievements of the coach are listed in bold, in their biography. Only coaches who have agreed to their inclusion are listed below. Coaches wishing to be included may email their bio and image to laura.kerr@athleticsni.org. The list will be updated monthly.

Inclusion on this list does not guarantee the current availability of the coach to work with any athlete although they have agreed for their contact details to be made available through Athletics Northern Ireland. Whilst some coaches deliver on a voluntary basis others may charge a fee. This is a matter between the coach and athlete.
