Athletics Northern Ireland are delighted to launch a series of Coach Development Workshops and Webinars, beginning in March 2023. Details of each of the webinars/ workshops included so far in the series, can be found below:
Workshop - Physical Preparation to support Teenage Athletes

Athletics NI Academy coaches Amy Foster, Scott Paulin and Thomas Rogan will deliver a practical workshop on the concepts, philosophies and methods that Athletics NI use to develop the physical qualities of teenage athletes. This follows on from the popular webinar in 2022 and will give coaches the opportunity to engage in a practical session where they can gain experience in coaching gym based movements.
This 3 hour workshop will include theory and practical elements on
This workshop is applicable for all coaches wishing to enhance their knowledge and delivery of physical preparation. Coaches may register one athlete to attend with them for the purposes of the practical session. Athletes must be named at the point of registration and be aged 14 + at the date of the workshop

Teachers Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day

Join us for an action packed day, where you will be shown the theory and practical of Athletics and how to integrate this to PE lessons.
The annual Teachers CPD day is open to all student teachers as well as those already working, over the course of the day you will go through theory and practice in the principles of run, throw and jump and how they apply to the Long Term Athlete Development Pathway as well as bringing these together for a multi event lesson plan.
This is open to both student teachers and those already working.
Places are limited to 40.

Webinar – Anaerobic Speed Reserve & Threshold Training with Dr. Gareth Sandford

Dr. Gareth Sandford is the physiology lead for Athletics and Triathlon Canada out of the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, Victoria British Columbia. Gareth has worked for 13 years across 15 individual and team sports within three Olympic and Paralympic systems (UK, New Zealand, Canada) and five professional sports leagues (English Cricket, Football, Rugby and Major League Soccer, Australian Rules Football). Together, supporting over 400 athletes that achieved 15 Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship medals, and one world record. Gareth was scientific lead for the Canadian Olympic marathon and race-walk athletes at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.
