About the Greencastle 5 Mile

The Greencastle 5 Mile is the longest running Road Run in County Tyrone having taken part on the same course every Boxing Day for the past 30 years.

The course is a unique road race in that it is a near perfect 5mile loop starting and finishing on the same spot.

The route is famous for its 800m long hill between 3.5 & 4mile. Apart from the hill the first 2.5 mile is probably the fastest you’ll find in the country. The course levels out between 2.5 & 3.5mile before you hit the hill. Once over the hill, you have over 1000metres downhill back to the finish line were you started.

Greencastle is located halfway between Omagh & Cookstown in County Tyrone. It is very centrally located and easy to find. Check our website for a map. Greencastle is located on the foothills of the scenic Sperrin Mountains.

We pride ourselves on providing a top quality event with a sensible entry fee. The whole Greencastle Community gets behind the event and a warm welcome always awaits anyone who takes part.

Late Entries

Last year 90% of entries were placed online beforehand. Our main hall is dedicated to distributing pre-entry packs. Limited late entries will be taken downstairs for £15. A race t-shirt is not guaranteed, We still accept Walk entries on the day up to 10:45am.

Pack Collection

Race packs can be collected inside Greencastle Community Centre from 9am on the morning of the race. Please print your confirmation email and bring it with you on the day in order to collect your Bib No/Timing Chip and t-shirt.

Pack Contents

Your pack will contain your BIB number, timing chip & high quality technical t-shirt. Bib Numbers must be worn on the front (chest). The timing chip must be attached to your shoe laces.

Chip Timing

You timing chip must be attached to the laces of your running shoe, please use the cable ties provided. All timing chips must be returned after you cross the finish line. There will be stewards present to cut off chips, please use the provided cable ties, we don’t want to cut your laces.

Your time will start when you cross the start line so don’t panic about losing time at the start.

Walkers will not get a timing chip. Please do not enter the run if you are walking.
Please enter the walk which starts at 11am.
Race walkers are permitted to take part in the main event.

Chip Timing – Mile Splits

The course is accurately measured and your time will be recorded at every mile, our results will show your split time for each separate mile, afterwards we will have the most comprehensive set of results supplied for any road run.

We will have no less than 6 timing systems on the course, early starters are automatically disqualified.

Transfers

If you cannot take place in this year’s Run for any reason, Please do not give your entry to another person without notifying us. Once you have found someone to transfer to you MUST contact info@greencastle5.com in order to complete the transfer. All online transfers must be completed by 8pm on 24th December.

Previously we had a few runners swapping numbers which caused a problem in the prize giving. One female runner gave her Bib/chip to her husband who finished well up. He finished 1st in a female category which stopped the legitimate prize winner from receiving her prize on the day.

You may not think it, but swapping bibs/chips has knock-on consequences.
Please take the time to email us.

ANYONE TAKING PART IN THE 2018 GREENCASTLE 5MILE RUN WITHOUT COMPLETING THE TRANSFER PROCESS WILL BE DEEMED DISQUALIFIED.
