3 Golds and 1 Bronze for Mark Clougherty at the Invictus Games

Lisburn based athlete, Mark Clougherty, competed at the recent Invictus Games at The Hague, Netherlands claiming 3 gold medals and 1 bronze.

The Invictus Games took place from 16th- 22nd April 2022, with the Glaswegian born athlete, competing in the IT8 category in the 1500m, 200m, 100m and 800m representing Team UK.

The Invictus Games, set up in 2013, aims to  “use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, injured and sick Service men and women.”

Mark’s first event, the Men’s IT8 took place on Sunday 16th April, where he secured his first medal of the Games with a time of 5:36.40 for Bronze.

On the second day of athletics, Monday 17th April, Mark claimed triple-gold finishing first in the Men’s IT8 200m with a time of 37.63 (w/s -2.4); then first in the Men’s IT8 100m in a time of 20.57 (w/s 0) and finally a first place finish in the Men’s IT8 800m in a time of 1:16.66.

Mark visited the Mary Peters Track, for the regular para training sessions, with coaches, Heather Ardis (Athletics NI Para Development Officer) and Helen Doherty, to celebrate his win with his fellow para athletes.
