Summer 2020 Competition Framework

Athletics Northern Ireland understand the desire for information about the potential competition season for track and field this year, as well as any return to club training prior to that.  We’ve been working in conjunction with British Athletics, the other Home Countries and Athletics Ireland, to provide guidance on how we can potentially transition back to activity and a possibly shortened competition season.

Before Covid-19

2020 started off on a massive high for me. As part of the Marathon Potential 2024 cohort, I attended a two-week training camp near Torre Vieja, Spain, organised jointly by Athletics Northern Ireland and Athletics Ireland. I had the honour of going toe-to-toe with (then) NI marathon record holder Paul Pollock, on the track.

SUSPENSION OF ATHLETICS COMPETITION EXTENDED TO 30th JUNE 2020

Following previous statements on 17th March and 24th March, Athletics Northern Ireland, in collaboration with the other Home Country Athletics Federations and UKA, can confirm that the suspension period relating specifically to athletics competition has been extended until at least the 30th June.

Join the 2.6 Challenge using OpenTrack virtual racing

Athletics Northern Ireland is delighted to announce a new partnership with OpenTrack virtual racing. To launch the new partnership, we are encouraging all Athletics NI affiliated clubs to support the Virgin Money London Marathon 2.6 Challenge- a new initiative which aims to raise the £67 million for UK charities that would have been raised by the postponed event.
