It was another celebratory night for shot putter John Kelly when he set a new Irish and Northern Irish record at the Cork City Sports of 20.16m.
This now places the 27 year old Finn Valley athlete ahead of former Irish record holder Eric Favors of Raheny Shamrocks who recorded 20.11m for 4th place in a classy event which was won by Italy’s Nick Ponzio with 20.71m. 2nd place went to Andrew Liskowitz of the US with 20.57 metres .
John has now broken the NI record twice this season following his earlier throw in June of 19.57m in Norway.
2018 Commonwealth Games Bronze medalist, Leon Reid was a comfortable winner in his 200m event with 20.82 secs ahead of Anaso Jobadwana of South Africa (20.88 secs). In his less favoured 100m event Leon finished 7th in 10.46 secs behind winner Israel Olatunde (10.31 secs) .
Mid Ulster’s Nick Griggs was 6th in 7.53.90, in the Men’s 3,000m where the winning time of 7.44.01, set by Darragh McEilhinney earned him a new Irish U23 record.
