Athletics Northern is pleased to announce very strong teams that will be competitive in both the men’s and women’s races.

Leading the women’s team is Annmarie McGlynn who has ran an impressive 72.33 at the Barcelona Half Marathon which took place in February this year. She will be joined by Hannah Irwin, who unfortunately missed last’s year’s event with injury and is showing a return to form running 33:16 over 10k earlier this year. Fionnuala Ross, also returns having ran an excellent race last year finishing 4th in 73:59. Completing the team will be Letterkenny’s Nakita Burke and Noeleen Scanlan. Both will be receiving their first NI & Ulster vests over the Half Marathon distance. Both represented their club at the European Clubs Cross Country Championships in February.

The men’s team is arguably one of the strongest ever fielded for this event with 2 of NI’s Olympic and Commonwealth Marathoners Stephen Scullion and Kevin Seaward. Gary Hegarty will be returning this year after an impressive 66:50 to take the win at the Spar Omagh Half Marathon earlier this year. Unfortunately Paul Pollock and Andrew Annett have both withdrawn. Armagh AC's Michael Fox will now join the team, following his performance in March at the Omagh Half Marathon, where he set a new PB time of 68:01.

Endurance Coordinator, Mark Kirk, said “The Antrim Coast Half Marathon will provide an excellent opportunity for these athletes selected on the team to experience a World Class race on home soil and also the chance to better their personal bests. The fields assembled for this year’s competition includes some of the fastest athletes in the world over the half marathon distance.

Additionally, the course is one of the most picturesque around featuring the coast’s stunning landscape.  I would like to wish the team the best of luck as they take to the line on the 27th August.”
