New European Record for Nick Griggs

Mid Ulster’s Nick Griggs added to his ever-rising reputation by breaking the European U20 Indoor Mile Record at last night’s Sport Ireland National Indoor Athletics Live Meet.

The European U20 3000m Gold Medallist, coached by Mark Kirk, ran his first sub-four minute mile, finishing in a fantastic time of 3:56.40, just 0.13 behind winner, Andrew Coscoran, breaking the European U20 Record of 4:02.33, set in 2013.

Incredibly Griggs’ time was only one second outside of the world record time of 3:55.02, set in 2009 by German Fernandez (USA).

The Mid Ulster AC runner, who turned 17 in December, made headlines last year, blazing to victory in the 3000m at the European U20 Championships in Tallinn.
