Teams will be selected for the Celtic Cross Country and the Home Countries Cross Country elements of the event.

NI & Ulster Celtic Cross Country 2022 Selection Policy

This year’s event will be hosted by Northern Ireland & Ulster on Saturday 22nd January at the Northern Ireland Cross Country International.

U17, U20 and U23 NI & Ulster Teams: Up to 4 Men and 4 Women per age group

Competitors must be U17, U20 and U23 on 31st December 2022.

Selection – current form across events listed below will be a factor in selection. Final Selection will be made during the week beginning 6th December. Athletes are asked to fill in an Expression of Interest form which will be available on the Athletics NI Website from 26th November and will close on 4th December at 3pm. NI & Ulster (9 counties) athletes will be eligible for selection in line with the criteria.

Selection Panel: Selections will be made by the Athletics Northern Ireland & Ulster Athletics selection panel comprising

  1. A representative of the Cross Country & Road Running Committee (Voting)
  2. The Athletics NI Performance Lead or other staff member if unavailable (voting)
  3. A representative of Ulster Athletics Council (voting)

The Athletics Northern Performance Lead may also (at his discretion) seek assistance (in a non-voting capacity) from anyone else he/she feels may be of help. Any voting member of the Selection Panel shall declare his or her conflict of interest in respect of any selection issue and shall not be entitled to vote on that issue.

The below races will be used to assess current form however other races may be considered at the discretion of the panel:

U17

  • Irish Even Age Group Cross Country (21th Nov)
  • Liverpool Cross Challenge (27th November)
  • Irish Uneven Age Group Cross Country (5th December)
  • NI & Ulster Even (24 Oct) & Uneven (6th Nov) Age Group Championships

U20

  • Irish Junior & U18 National Cross Country Championships (21th Nov) Irish Uneven Age Group Cross Country (5th December)
  • Liverpool Cross Challenge (27th November)
  • NCAA Conference, Regional and National championships (various dates and venues);
  • NI & Ulster Even (24 Oct) & Uneven (6th Nov) Age Group Championships
  • Autumn Open International Cross- Country Festival (Sport Ireland, National Sports Campus, 17th October)

U23

  • Irish Senior Championships (21st November)
  • Liverpool Cross Challenge (27th November)
  • NCAA Conference, Regional and National championships (various dates and venues)
  • Autumn Open International Cross- Country Festival (Sport Ireland, National Sports Campus, 17th October)
  • Bobby Rea Memorial (24th Oct) Novice Regional Cross Country (6 Nov)
