Advice for Throws Workshop with David Littlejohn

Wednesday 22 April 2026 | 6:30pm–8:00pm | Mary Peters Track

David Littlejohn is a Level 2 Athletics Ireland qualified throws coach who has been coaching athletes across County Kerry for more than a decade. A competitive thrower himself, David has won numerous provincial and national medals and has helped guide multiple juvenile athletes to national level competition.

Develop your understanding of the fundamentals of throwing in a relaxed and practical workshop designed for athletes and coaches of all levels. Explore the key dynamics behind the throwing events, build confidence and ask questions in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.

This relaxed and practical indoor workshop is ideal for any athlete or coach who would like to begin learning, or further develop their understanding of, the fundamentals and dynamics of throwing. Designed as a non-throwing session, David will talk through the key positions, movements and technical principles behind the throwing events in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.

The evening will include a 30-minute demonstration session, using an Athletics NI assistant coach to demonstrate techniques and positions, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session. Tea, coffee and sweet treats will be available throughout the evening. The workshop costs £5 to cover venue hire.

Frame Running Workshop with Graeme Reid

Sunday 10 May 2026 | Mary Peters Track

Graeme Reid is a Scottish Athletics Level 2 coach and one of the leading figures behind the growth of frame running in Scotland. As part of Corstorphine AAC’s para-athletics programme, Graeme has helped establish one of Scotland’s most successful frame running groups, supporting athletes of all ages and abilities. He has been recognised for his work in inclusive coaching and has played a key role in making athletics more accessible for disabled athletes.

This workshop is open to both new and experienced frame running athletes aged 8 and over, as well as coaches, parents and physiotherapists who would like to learn more about the sport. Graeme will introduce the basics of frame running, explore coaching approaches and equipment, and provide practical guidance for athletes looking to develop their confidence and performance.

The session is free to attend and will provide an opportunity to learn from one of the most experienced frame running coaches in Scotland in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Disability Inclusion Workshop

Sunday 14 June 2026 | Mary Peters Track

This free workshop is designed for qualified athletics coaches who want to make their sessions more inclusive and accessible for disabled athletes. Whether you are new to inclusive coaching or looking to build on your existing knowledge, this session will provide practical advice and ideas that can be applied within your own club or training group.

The workshop will explore how to adapt sessions, communicate effectively, remove barriers to participation and create a positive environment where all athletes feel welcome and supported. Coaches will leave with greater confidence and a better understanding of how to ensure athletics is accessible to everyone.

The workshop is free to attend and is suitable for all Athletics NI qualitfied coaches working across all ages and disciplines.

First Aid Training for Coaches and Leaders

UKA has revised its policy on First Aid provision for Coaches and Leaders so that it is aligned with the HSE requirements under Civil Law and Duty of Care. We are aware that a number of Coaches have already undertaken first aid training as good practice which is great but given recent incidents there will now be a requirement for all UKA Licensed Coaches and Leaders to have a suitable level First Aid Training certificate, renewable every three years in line with the re-licensing process. Details on what sort of First Aid Training Coaches & Leaders will need is available on the below flowchart:
