Insurance Cover for Clubs

Who is Insured?

As a UKA affiliated club or organisation, you are automatically provided with insurance cover related to your club’s “athletics activities”. This not only means training and competitions, but also club / region administrative meetings, social and fundraising activities organised by the club.

The policy also indemnifies any official, secretariat, committee, sub-committee, working party, or volunteer of an affiliated club.

The UKA Insurance for Clubs information sheet tells you what insurance cover is provided and what to do if you ever need to make a claim. Any additional cover required will be your own responsibility.

Insurance Cover for Athletes

Who is Insured?

As an athlete who has paid (or is deemed to have paid) subscriptions to a club or organisation affiliated to UKA, England Athletics, Scottish Athletics, Athletics Northern Ireland, or Welsh Athletics, you are automatically provided with Public Liability insurance cover which applies while you are involved in athletics activities organised by the affiliated club or organisation. This not only relates to training and competing, but also club / region administrative meetings as well as when part of a team representing UKA, England Athletics, Scottish Athletics, Athletics Northern Ireland, or Welsh Athletics.

The UKA Insurance for Athletes information sheet tells you what insurance cover is provided and what to do if you ever need to make a claim. Any additional cover required will be your own responsibility.

Please note:

  • This is not a personal accident policy (if an athlete trips over their own shoelaces and breaks an arm, there is no automatic compensation)
  • There is no cover proved when athletes are training independently of their club (e.g. out for a run on their own causing injury to a member of the public)
  • Damage to or loss of an Athlete’s own personal property is not covered by this policy

Insurance Cover for Coaches

Who is Insured?

A Coach or Leader who holds a current UKA pass and licence in the discipline being coached is automatically provided with public liability insurance cover which applies while you are involved in athletics activities.

This not only relates to training, club/region administrative meetings but also when undertaking coaching for other non UKA affiliated bodies. It covers unqualified people so long as they are under the direct control of a qualified licensed Coach or Leader and are merely carrying out instructions given to them by that Coach or Leader.

Whether a coach is paid or unpaid is not relevant, the cover applies providing the Coach or Leader is acting within the terms of a current pass or licence.

The UKA Insurance for Coaches & Leaders information sheet tells you what insurance cover is provided and what to do if you ever need to make a claim. Any additional cover required will be your own responsibility.

Insurance Cover for Technical Officials

Who is Insured?

As a Technical Official* who acts on behalf of a UKA affiliated club, organisation, or meeting promoter, you are automatically provided with insurance cover which applies while you are involved in athletics activities. This not only relates to competitions, but also club / region administrative meetings.

*The term ‘Technical Official’ is defined as being a person who has satisfied the requirement of UK Athletics as set down in the “Rules for Competition” as updated from time to time.

The UKA Insurance for Technical Officials information sheet tells you what insurance cover is provided and what to do if you ever need to make a claim. Any additional cover required will be your own responsibility.

Please note that late or non-payment of affiliation, registrations or race permit fees etc may result in your club/coaches/athletes/event being uninsured.
