Action Packed Weekend for Youth Athletes at Irish Schools and Childrens Games

The best schools athletes from NI & Ulster will be travelling to Tullamore this weekend to compete against their Irish counterparts in the Irish Life Health All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships on Saturday 2nd June.

It promises to be an action-packed day, with a total of 122 events taking place. There will be live streaming available on the Athletics Ireland Facebook page HERE from 9.30am.

Among the many NI athletes to look out for will be Bangor Grammar and North Down AC athlete, Aaron Sexton in the Senior Boys 100m and 200m.  Davicia Patterson (Hunterhouse, Belfast /Beechmount Harriers) will be competing in the Senior Girls 400m. Davicia currently holds the meeting record for this event with a time of 53.90s.

Sullivan Upper pupil, Katie Monteith (City of Lisburn AC) will be competing in the Intermediate Girls 100m and 200m, while club teammate Lauren Roy (St Patrick’s Ballymena/ City of Lisburn AC) will be competing in the Senior Girls 100m.

City of Derry Spartans, multi-eventer, Finn O’Neill (Limavady Grammar) will be competing in the Minor Boys 800m and the 75m Hurdles. Troy McConville (SERC Newtownards/ North Down AC) will be competing in the Senior Boys 110m Hurdles against Ethan Williamson (Portadown College/ Lagan Valley AC) and the two will then be joined in the Senior Boys Pole Vault by Jack Murphy (St Macartan’s Monaghan).

In the Inter Girls 3000m Sorcha Mullen (Loreto Grammar, Omagh/ Omagh Harriers) and Bethany Nixon (Ballymena Academy/ Dromore AC) will compete, while the Inter Girls 800m will see Victoria Lightbody (Wallace High School/ City of Lisburn AC), Aela Stewart (Lumen Christi, Derry/ City of Derry Spartans) and Hope McBride (Bangor Academy/ North Belfast Harriers) all competing.

Orangegrove AC’s Adam Sykes (Grosvenor Grammar, Belfast) will compete in the Inter Boys 100m against Oliver Swinney (Dominican College, Portstewart/ Rising Stars) and in the 200m against club teammate Rory Carson (Sullivan Upper, Holywood). In the Inter Boys 1500m, both Dylan McBride (Grosvenor Grammar, Belfast/ Willowfield Harriers) and Sean McGinley (St Euan’s Letterkenny/ Olympian Youth & AC) will take to the start line.

Erin Fisher (Methodist College, Belfast/ City of Lisburn Ac) will compete in the Senior Girls Pole Vault, while Jai Benson (St Malachy’s Belfast/ Lagan Valley AC) will compete in the Senior Boys Triple Jump and Long Jump.

In the Inter Boys Triple Jump, we will see Jonathan Cochrane (Ballymena Academy/ Ballymena & Antrim AC) competing against Joshua Knox (Belfast High School/ City of Lisburn AC) and Joe Hopes (Regent House, Newtownards).

Elsewhere this weekend…

Junior athletes will be taking to the track and field at the NI & Ulster Children’s Games in Finn Valley on Sunday 2nd June 2019.

The children’s games provides an opportunity for younger athletes to compete in U9- U13 age group categories across a number of disciplines. The event is organised by the Ulster Athletics Council. With over 350 children entered for individual competition and just over 50 relay teams entered, it is set to be a tremendous day of competition.
