Athletes Excel at Schools Combined Events Championships
17 November 2025

Northern Irish athletes secured two medals at last weekend’s Irish Schools Combined Event Championships with one further athlete gaining selection for next month’s Schools International in Glasgow.
Junior Girl Isabella O’Dowd (Victoria College Belfast) who may be better know as a high jumper, took the silver medal with a series of good performances and an impressive 1.63m in the High Jump. Her score of 2984 was just 19 points off the gold medal performance.
Minor Girl Millie Sandy (St Cecilia's College Derry) finished with the bronze medal in her age group with a score of 2923 which included an outstanding win in the Shot Put with 11.52m which was over 2m ahead of the next best performance.
Jacob Dumigan (Wallace HS) was fifth in the Junior Boy’s competition but has been selected for the Irish Schools team travelling to Glasgow next month as some of the athletes ahead of him were too old for the International which is run under UK age groups.
These three athletes and nine others took part in Combined Event squad sessions, led by staff members Tom Reynolds and James Douglas, building up to these championships between the end of September and the start of November to allow athletes to train as a group, practice all the events and learn about the unique aspects of competing in Combined Events.
All squad athletes performed well at the championships and came away with PBs and many learnings to take onto their next competitions.
With thanks to the significant contribution of volunteer coaches on the programme Janet Boyle and Ian McMullen.
