Athletes perform at Road Relays, BMC and Scottish Championships

Locally last weekend saw the annual running of the NI and Ulster Road Relay Championships which were held in Victoria Park on Saturday.
CNDR were clear victors from North Down AC in the senior men’s race with CNDR’s Conall McClean running the fastest leg of the day with 9.14. In the senior women’s race Willowfield retained their title with Kirsti Foster running the fastest women’s leg with 10.33. Willowfield also won the mixed relay race. In the master’s races Annadale Striders won both men’s and women’s titles.
Earlier in the week despite windy conditions at the Tooting BMC record breaker on Wednesday night Nick Griggs (CNDR) ran another Commonwealth Games consideration standard this time for 1500m with 3.35.22 to finish third in the men’s A race. Callum Morgan (CNDR) backed up his pb from the previous week running 3.40.12 to finish third in the Men’s B 1500m. Andrew Thompson (NBH) was sixth in the men’s A race in 1.47.18. He did however pb at the Bury BMC on Saturday running 1.46.66 to finish third in the men’s A race.
A small NI & Ulster Team travelled to the Scottish Championships and came back with strong performances and medals. Lauren Callaghan followed up second at the NI & Ulster Championships with second in the Scottish Championships behind the same athlete. Adam Courtney ran impressively judged heats and semi finals before taking an impressive bronze in the final. John Kelly, who had entered individually won the Shot Put Gold with 17.51m.
