Athletics NI say farewell to Track Manager Wendy Philips and Track Attendant Jim Craigie

The Mary Peters Track staff, Wendy Philips and Jim Craigie are both moving on to pastures new this week after many years of service to the sport of athletics in Northern Ireland, both having started at the Track in 2014.

Wendy a member of City of Lisburn AC and 1978 Commonwealth Games athlete, where she competed in the high jump and pentathlon in Edmonton, Canada.

Wendy was awarded the John Moore Memorial Award for her dedication to sporting events during the restrictions of Covid-19, where she hosted a number of track events at the Mary Peters Track.

She has been instrumental in the development of track and field in Northern Ireland, as a coach for City of Lisburn AC, and also as a member of the Athletics NI Track & Field Committee, assisting with the organisation of the annual NI & Ulster Age Group and Senior Championships, among many other events, and ensuring the Mary Peters Track was the first fully UKA TrackMark accredited venue in Northern Ireland.

In his role at the Mary Peters Track, Jim assisted with the set up and organisation of many events, from school sports days, open meets, cooperate events and the annual NI & Ulster Championships.

An Australia native, Jim has been a unique presence at the Track. His work ethic and approachable manner have supported the growth of the Mary Peters Track and the quality of service available for clubs, athletes and coaches using the facilities.

Wendy and Jim will both be missed at Athletics NI and the Mary Peters Track, and we wish them the best in her future endeavours, and look forward to working with her in the future.
